When working with software development – and particularly when working in a distributed team environment- project management and control become the most critical success factors.
TEO drives the startup phase onsite with the customer when new projects are initiated. As the customer, you should concentrate on project content and knowledge transfer. We contribute with our experience concerning how to collaborate and the best way to start up a project regarding responsibilities, process and daily activities. By this responsibility sharing, most common software outsourcing bad practices are eliminated. The close project control is usually only needed for the first 10 weeks of the collaboration. Afterwards, the steering committee will monitor, on a monthly basis, whether the success criteria agreed upon by both of us is progressing in the right direction. Sometimes our customers ask TEO to take responsibility in the onsite organization also. This is done by embedding a project manager or a senior software engineer at the customer’s location who can both coordinate with TEO’s extended team and assist in purely onsite activities. Usually this request comes 6-12 months into the collaboration. The embedding approach is a much better solution than hiring a new employee to the onsite organization since the TEO employee at this point already has experience with the project and is well known by both the customer organization and TEO. The employee is therefore productive from the very first day. |
